Accessories

There’s no doubt in my mind that what I watched on TV over this past weekend, what unfolded on the that icy street in Minneapolis, was murder–plain and simple. Yes, there are degrees of murder, and I’ll leave it for the legal minds to sort out which applies in this case. But if I’m on that jury, no amount of persuasion or BS about “fearing for his life” could persuade me otherwise. And anyone with an ounce of common sense and the ability to see should come to that same conclusion.

But there likely won’t be a trial, nor a jury. The cover-up started the moment the incident ended. Which brings me to my point: Shouldn’t the people, up the chain of command, who brought the principals of this incident together, at that time, in that place, be equally accountable. Aren’t they accessories to that murder?

Looking up the legal definition of “accessory to murder,” it seems indicting Noem, or Miller or even Trump himself on that charge wouldn’t stick. Knowledge of an intent to commit murder is one of the prerequisites. I don’t believe the ICE thug who pulled the trigger woke up that morning with that intent–maybe he even lacked intent as he stupidly walked around the front of a vehicle whose engine was running. So, it would be impossible to prosecute those actually responsible as accessories to the crime itself. But, given their coordinated efforts to characterize this as what it plainly wasn’t, aren’t they, by legal definition, accessories after the fact?

But, again, that’s a narrow legal point of view. For all the reasons that have been repeated by all the “liberal” pundits, those ICE agents, or boarder patrol agents, or whatever hastily-recruited malcontents with a lust for bullying and brandishing weapons had no practical reason for being on the scene in the first place. It was only to carry out the megalomaniacal desires of the mightily disturbed Stephen Miller, aided and abetted by Trump and Noem. Therein lies the real crime.

It’s sad that there will be no true justice for Renee Good. Martyrdom perhaps, but no justice. But it is even sadder that there will likely be no justice for America for the many crimes of the Trump regime. The best we can hope for is a sweep from power of his Congressional enablers in November. But, isn’t the intimidation being wrought throughout the land by the regime’s armed militia simply the precursor to corrupting that election on the grandest of scales? Will that cleansing even happen?

This country has been subjected to a propaganda campaign the likes of which, due to the sheer volume and effectiveness of communication channels available here, is unprecedented in human history. Herr Goebbels must be looking up from Hell in admiring shock and awe. Still, at the basis of all propaganda is always a kernel of truth, and people who will buy into the entire lie based on those kernels. Perhaps we can understand that minor percentage of the American people, the real deplorables, who will never have the brains or insight to separate the fantasy they’re told from the reality that’s right in front of their noses. But what about the rest of us? We elected him, didn’t we. What are we accessories to?
